How green is the REVA?
The REVA has a very low 'carbon footprint' in the
entire energy cycle compared to fossil fuel cars.
Whatever your electricity source, the REVA has ZERO
direct emissions, so no local pollution, ever. The
REVA is also much quieter than a conventional car,
minimizing local noise pollution. The bumpers are
made of recycled plastic and body panels of ABS which
is biodegradable. The used batteries are recycled by
certified agencies through a reclamation process that
is approved by the Pollution Control Board. It thus
has one of the lowest 'well to wheel' efficiencies -
conserving energy overall - whatever the source.

Questions on the
battery
-
How far can REVA go on
one single charge?
REVA can go up to 80-KM on a single charge depending
on usage.
-
How do you recharge the
batteries?
REVA's charging system is extremely simple, very
reliable and safe. It has an on- board charger along
with a charge cable and can be charged anywhere, at
home or at work, by simply plugging in to a 230 Volt,
15-Ampere socket. A full charge
is attained in 8
hours and 80% charge in two and a half hours.
-
What kind of batteries
is used in the REVA? What is their life span?
A total of eight 6-volt EV type lead acid
batteries specially developed for EV`s form REVA's
power pack. The battery pack has a typical life of 2-3
years depending upon usage.
-
What is the life of the
batteries?
The REVA batteries are lead acid with an expected
average lifetime of two to three years depending upon
the usage. These 'wet' batteries have longer life than
'dry' (sealed) lead acid batteries found in other EVs.
They are also easier to revive and are less expensive
to replace.
-
How do I water the
batteries?
The batteries need to be topped up with 1 - 2
litres of de-ionized water once every 3-4 weeks, which
takes just a couple of minutes. Simply connect the
water kit onto the connector nozzle in the side of the
vehicle and wait a couple of minutes. De-ionized water
is available from most garages.
Questions on financial savings
-
What are the financial
benefits/subsidies available?
Various Indian states offer different benefits for
the purchase of electric vehicles. The Delhi
government for example, offers a total benefit of
29.5% on the price of the vehicle (15% subsidy, Nil
VAT, Nil registration charges).
-
How economical is the
REVA?
The REVA uses 9 units of electricity for a single
full charge that gives up to 80 KM in city driving
conditions. Low energy consumption would mean a cost
of 40 paise/km. Since the REVA does not have an
engine, clutch or gears, or a carburetor, radiator,
exhaust etc, the maintenance cost is low. Estimates
show that the maintenance costs of REVA are 40 % lower
than that of a small car over a 3-year ownership
period.
-
What are the payment
options available?
