REVA Electric Car Co (Pvt) Ltd., is planning to
come out with more variants of its electric cars. The REVA Sahara
designed for the physically challenged where all controls will be
at the handle-level will be available from the next month. Mr.Chetan
Maini - MD, REVA Electric said.
A convertible, a larger four-seater model and a
pick-up vehicle are on the cards on the same platform, Mr.Maini
said. REVA is also looking at developing a small niche in the public
transportation segment and is considering the electric mini-bus
solution.
The base REVA model, the REVA AC and the fully
loaded REVA Classe are the existing variants. Mr.Maini said he was
looking at sales tax exemption from the Maharashtra government which
would make a difference of about Rs.33,000 to Rs.45,000 in the price
of the car.
While another Rs.10,000 can be reduced if road
tax waiver was given. Currently Rajasthan, Goa, Karnataka and Andhra
Pradesh have granted these exemptions.

In addition, the ministry of non-conventional energy
sources is providing a Rs.75,000 subsidy to select institutions.
There are 300 REVAs on road but the volumes will
pickup ones the national roll-out is completed, Mr.Maini said. The
company is also banking on exports picking up.
It has just dispatched 16 cars for testing to the
UK. REVA has tied up with UK based Going Green to retail the REVA
electric car in the UK and will soon start bulk exports and also
explore new markets in Europe.
The REVA was launched in Pune on Wednesday and
will be soon available in Mumbai, Sangli, Satara and Gujarat.
Mr. Dilip Nankeolyar, director, Urga Raj Enterprises,
dealers for Pune said the city could take in about 400 REVA cars
in the first year.
