IT boasts of being the only one of its kind in
the world. It promises luxury without burning a hole in your pocket.
And if you are too keen on the greener side of things, you could
call it a dream come true.
Apart from an assortment of flashy, stylish and
vintage cars, the 6th Auto Expo which ended on Tuesday, also had
pollution-free electric cars on display. Manufactured in Karnataka,
these electric cars are a thoughful venture of REVA Electric Cars.
'No polluting while commuting', is REVA's catchline. The car runs
on electricity and therefor, is a better option than CNG-run vehicles,
the manufacturers claimed.
The compact car gives a maximum speed of 65 kmph
and has a mileage of 80 km per charge. If you want to drive this
car, you would have to get into the habit of doing without gears,
clutch-plates and even a carburettor. The car is moderately priced,
making it affordable since most of the requisite components have
been manufactured indigenously, said the manufacturers.

Taking about the size of the car, Anshu Shukla,
representative of REVA Cars at the Auto Expo, said: "REVA fits into
the bill of city mobility owing to its small size.
It makes sense to come out with such a car because
if you look at the Indian cities, where is the space to park the
cars?" she asks. The car has received a good response from places
where it has been launched including Goa and Karnataka, she said.
"We plan to launch REVA in Delhi by next month.
The Auto Expo was more of a water testing exercise,"
she said. Shouldn't Delhi have been the first place for REVA's launch
considering the high pollution levels in the Capital? "States where
REVA has been introduced have waived the sales tax. We are hoping
for a similar response from Delhi government," she replied.
