REVA Electric Car Company has tied up with the UK-Based Going Green
Ltd for export of 2,50,000 units of REVA's new Classe electric car
to the UK, European Union (EU) and other countries over the next
10 years. The Classe, which is currently being test marketed in
the EU, will receive appropriate EU certification by the end of
November.
This model, based on the REVA Eco series, was launched in Bangalore
last year. With features that include remote controlled air conditioning
strengthened side beams and improved security systems, the Classe
is being marketed as an eco-friendly car for developing countries,
having already entered the markets in Nepal and Malta. The company
has received export request from Switzerland, China, Hong Kong and
the US and is in talks for possible deals in Greece, Turkey and
Egypt.
REVA, which received a Rs. 75,000 subsidy on Classe from the ministry
of non conventional energy for government agencies and departments,
educational institutions and hospitals is currently working towards
further subsidies within the private sector.

Minister of State in Prime Minister's office Vijay Goel who attended
and inaugurated the Classe launch here on Wednesday, promised to
appeal to the ministry of finance (MoF) for private sector subsidies.
REVA, which has received export requests for the Classe from Nepal,
Malta, Switzerland, China, Hong Kong and the United States, Currently
has 300 units on the road.
Certain states like Pondicherry, Karnataka and Goa have exempted
sales tax on the Classe, but a major percent age of taxes on the
Classe comprise central excise and customers duty on imported components.
While the Classe is priced at Rs. 3.18 lakh in Delhi REVA's managing
director Chetan Maini said total savings amounted to almost Rs.
One Lakh per year simply because the Classe did not need much maintenance.
Classe works on the automatic transmission system, and boasts two
on board computers and a palm top to diagnose problems. It is also
currently the only Indian Car to run on tubeless types Marketing
of the car focuses on cutting driving time, and opening up new market
segments like women and young students.
