Bangalore - based REVA Electric Car Company today said it would soon start retailing its zero-polluting, gearless, electric hatchback two door car "REVA" in the UK.
The company has tied up with a UK-based newly formed organisation of private investors "Going Green" to market the car initially in the UK and later in other European
countries, RECC managing Director Chetan Maini and Co-found of Going Green Steven Cain told reporters here at a joint press conference.
Mr. Maini said company is to dispatch its first batch of vehicles this month to the UK. The first batch will be ready for the dispatch during January 2003.
He said REVA plans to go national during the next six months with the car likely to be made available in 17 cities representing a pan-India reach. The company has signed up 12 dealers for the purpose.

He said the company has so far sold 275 cars in India with a production capacity of 6,000 vehicle annually. Mr. Maini said the company's joint venture with Going Green will help build an export market to contribute about 25 percent to 50 percent of the company's sales in the next few years, he said.
Maini Group Chairman S.K Maini said the "REVA" car would soon be launched in Malta, Malaysia, Japan and serious attempts were being made to forge alliances with various international companies.
"REVA's electric vehicle will be the best value, environmental friendly vehicle on the road in Britain, " Mr. Cain said. He said the UK firm is invested heavily on building a new business model for retailing REVA in the UK and subsequently in other European countries. "The car will be not be available for sales in the UK but it
would be available on a contractual basis as REVA will be available at a price more affordable in UK than in India, " he said.
