India's first electric car company, the Bangalore
based REVA Electric Car Company, the Bangalore based REVA Electric
Car Company (RECC) has announced its foray into the state market.
REVA was recognised as the technical innovations of the year by
the government of India earlier this year when the vie president,
Mr. Krishan Kant launched it in Delhi on May 11, 2001.
REVA is being currently marketed in Bangalore since
July 2001. With an Operating cost of 40 paise per kilometer and
an of driving, this car started ready presence making its felt in
Bangalore. This could not have been possible without support the
government of Karnataka who have exempted road tax and also the
sales tax on REVA in Karnataka, said Mr. S.K.Maini, chairman, Maini
group, Manufacturers of REVA. Government support to EV projects
like ours will help us reach out to the customers in all segments.
MNES has recommended to other state governments
to exempt REVA from sales tax and road tax. Mr. Maini said that
they have approached the chief ministers of various states to support
their project by providing these tax exemptions. Presently, Rajasthan
government has agreed to exempt sales tax and road tax for REVA
in the state of Rajasthan.
Talking about the plans of expansion of the sales
network, Mr. Maini said that they were still awaiting tax exemptions
from various states. By 1st quarter of 2002, they hope to have all
the exemptions in place before they start sales in other parts of
the country. In the meanwhile, RECC has started groundwork for selecting
suitable dealers in these areas to establish a sound dealership
and service network.

REVA is a shining example of Maini's resolve to

by the early next year.
