THE Bangalore-based REVA Electric Car Company Pvt.
Ltd. will soon launch its electric car, REVA, in Chennai and other
markets in the South, according to the company's Managing Director,
Mr. Chetan Maini.
Mr. Maini told newspersons in Chennai that the
company was awarded the Dr M.S. Swaminathan Award for Environment
Protection - 2001.
The car costing Rs 2,49,000 was recently launched
in Bangalore, and 25 cars had been sold, he said.
The car can travel 80 km on a single charge of
nine units.

The running cost was 40 paise per km, he said.
The award, consisting of a silver plaque and a citation, has been
instituted by the Rotary Club of Madras East and Earthcare, which
markets environment-friendly stationery to corporates.
REVA is a joint venture between the Bangalore-based
Maini group and AEVT Inc of California in the US.
The Maini group has interests in automotive components,
machined castings and forgings, equipment and granites.
