Considering the high level of air pollution and
congested roads in Bangalore, urban transportation experts have
identified the city as ideal for encouraging electric vehicles (EVS)
over the conventional petrol, diesel or liquefied petroleum gas
vehicles.
Speaking at a symposium on 'Bangalore an ideal
Indian city to introduce electric vehicles, several prominent Indian
and foreign speakers expressed that Bangalore's problems of congested
roads and pollution could be solved by introducing EVS and phasing
out petrol and diesel run vehicles.

EVS are vehicles powered by rechargeable electric
batteries. These vehicles are considered a boon, as they are noiseless
with zero-emission levels. According to experts evs are easier to
service and maintain, and are considered ideal for 'stop-star' city
driving conditions.
Studies have shown that countries like India, China
and Brazil had the most potential based on factors of urban congestion,
high pollution levels and large city car markets.(PTI)
